WritersMarket.com lists hundreds of writing contests for writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, writing for children, journalism, and more. Here are three with August deadlines:

American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest offers a $5,000 prize for the best script by an unknown screenwriter. The early registration deadline is August 1 with a $35 entry fee; the regular deadline is September 6, though the entry fee rises to $50.

Juniper Prize for Poetry is offered for the best unpublished first book of poetry. Submissions open on August 1 and run through September 30. The winner receives $1,5000, plus royalties. Entry fee is $25.

Annual Gival Press Short Story Award is offered for the best unpublished short story (5,000-15,000 words). The winner receives $1,000, plus publication. The deadline is August 8 with a $25 entry fee.
