So you want to be your own boss, huh? You think you’re ready to be the captain of a ship? Remember that the captain has to go down with the ship when it sinks. The same is true for businesses. When it sinks, your employees will abandon ship while you are swallowed by the ocean.

Still unfazed I see. With that spirit you might just make it. Well who am I to stand in the way of such unbridled spirit. I’ll tell you what I’ll do. I’ll help you on your journey. Here are a few tips to help you set up an office space for your small business.

Small, but artistic

I’m going out on a limb here and assuming you’re not going to get a big office space. I understand, money doesn’t grow on trees and you need to save every penny you can. However, a small office may put off potential employees. To prevent this from happening it’s important to spice up the place.

Use modern colors for the wall instead of the traditional white.White makes the place look like a mental asylum. Bring a few paintings and figurines from your home to decorate the place.It doesn’t matter if it’s small, as long as it looks appealing.

Bring your own device

Want to save money on workstations? Ask your employees to bring their own device. This will prevent Microsoft and Apple from becoming rich off of you. Employees will take better care of their own machines as opposed to those provided by the company. Even if they don’t, it’s not going to affect you.

Most people have their own laptops and you can make exceptions in the cases of those who don’t. However, be sure to request the company laptop back in case you decide to terminate their employment. Can’t have them getting away with office equipment, can we?

Make your own furniture

Modern office furniture isn’t cheap. In fact, the furniture ends up costing more than the office space itself. If you can get a good deal then excellent, if you can’t,then it’s time to call Jesus. No not the messiah, the Mexican carpenter.

Well, the messiah did have a brief stint as a carpenter, but he’s otherwise busy right now. Making your own furniture has its advantages.You can save a little money and design it to suit your needs. It can prove to be the Pièce de résistance of your office.

Make it eco-friendly

Before you tell me how expensive it’s going to be let me remind you that it’s a onetime expense. You’ll be reaping the benefits of it till your office stands.

It can be something as simple as energy efficient light fixtures or something as complex as solar panels. Imagine the entire office running on solar energy, wouldn’t that be something? As long as the sun shines there will be no electricity bills for the foreseeable future.
