Originating in 1984, TED is a nonprofit with a mission of spreading great ideas. TED began with one conference that combined ideas from Technology, Entertainment and Design. TED has now grown to include two annual conferences, a video website, a TED prize award, and more.

On the website, TED Talks are posted on a large variety of topics such as technology, global issues, medicine, education, poetry, sports, compassion and success. This article will examine 5 of the most incredible TED talks about success.

1. Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action

Uploaded in May 2010, Simon Sinek takes top honors in this list of the 5 most incredible TED talks about success. In this eighteen-minute video, Mr. Sinek examines why and how some organizations and leaders are more able to achieve success than others. He uses Apple, the Wright Brothers and Martin Luther King as examples of great leaders or organizations who have achieved huge successes simply by challenging the status quo and following their dreams.

2. Matt Cutts: Try something new for 30 days

From July 2011, this short video by Matt Cutts looks at setting and achieving your goals by trying something new for just 30 days. He states that 30 days is enough time to change your habits – either making a new habit or ending an old habit. He provides proof from his own experiences with the 30-day challenge.

3. Derek Sivers: Keep your goals to yourself

This short TED Talk by Derek Sivers was uploaded to TED.com in September 2010. Mr. Sivers examines evidence that keeping your goals to yourself is the secret to achieving success. He presents research from the 1920s to present time to back-up his beliefs. Mr. Sivers believes that those who discuss their goals with others will be less likely to achieve those goals.

4. Alain de Botton: A kinder, gentler philosophy of success

Uploaded in July 2009, Alain de Botton speaks about the ideas of success and failure. In this witty talk, he questions what leads humans to believe they have achieved success. Mr. Botton speaks of snobbery and envy and examines evidence that our society places great value on the accomplishments of others. Individuals are driven to achieve the type of success that others have.

5. Amy Cuddy: Your body language shapes who you are

This inspirational, twenty-minute TED Talk by Amy Cuddy, a social psychologist, was uploaded in October 2012. In this video, Ms. Cuddy speaks about “power posing” – using your body language to portray an attitude of confidence and success. She also presents evidence that people can use their body language to make themselves feel more confident in certain situations. Ms. Cuddy provides research that shows how a person’s body language can affect the chemistry of their brain, therefore helping them feel more confident.
