One of the most valuable, yet untapped, resources for new homeowners is their neighbors.

Don’t let this great opportunity pass you by.

Get to know your neighbors because there’s a lot of benefits that can come with it.

Helping hand

If you’re working on a big home improvement project or just need some simple help with some yard work, being a good neighbor may net you some helping hands. This is a great bonding experience for neighbors and you’ll get the job done faster with more hands and minds working on the task.

Borrowing tools

Sometimes, you can’t find the tool you need or yours has broken. A good way to obtain a temporary backup is by being friendly with your neighbors. They’ll be more willing to help you out in your time of need.

Just make sure you return it cleaner than it was when they let you borrow it to stay on their good side. Don’t forget to return the favor if they need something from you.

Quick advice

Residents who have been in your neighborhood longer than you usually know a good amount of information. If you need a quick maintenance job done, a good neighbor will usually be able to provide you with the cheapest, quickest, and most reliable service.

And, who knows? You might need some personal advice someday that they may be able to help you out with. Be a good neighbor to get valuable information when you need it.

Taking care of your kids

Babysitter costs can rack up pretty fast and daycare facilities are never fun. Getting to know your neighbors around you open up many options. You’re likely to find someone near you that has a child around the same age as yours.

So if you have a dinner date with your spouse and need someone to watch your kids, you can rely on your neighbors to help you out. They’ll probably ask the same favor from you, but it’s always a good idea to socialize your kid with people who are nearby. It’s easier for you to keep track of them and you’ll already know their parents.

Watchful eye

Having extra sets of eyes watch your home is never a bad thing. Being friendly with neighbors will make them more likely to share information with you if something suspicious has been going on.

They can also help you out if you’re going on vacation and need someone to pick up your mail and/or newspaper so it doesn’t pile up. An alarm system is always a good way to protect your home, but having a watchful eye from your neighbors is even better.

Connections

You never know who might be living next to you. So if you ever reach a hard time in your life economically, your neighbors might be able to help you out with the people they know. Don’t burn any bridges – keep all your connections open. You’ll never know when you need it.

Easy living

Being a good neighbor just makes life easier in general. You won’t have to worry about your neighbors plotting to attack you or anything like that. So do yourself and favor and get to know your neighbors.
