Buying gifts for a new mother or her new born child can be tricky – after all, there are probably only a handful of things that any newborn really wants or needs and chances are that everyone else has thought of them.
If you don’t want to just buy the same old boring items though; here are 4 cool ideas though which are also environmentally friendly in one way or another as an added bonus:
Organic baby clothes
It’s true, lots of people will buy baby clothes but firstly; with a new born baby you can never have too many baby clothes kids get through clothes so quickly in those first few months… And secondly if you go with organic materials they are often very soft and designed for maximum comfort for the baby, which is a plus.
Make a gift basket
This is a simple gift idea with a personal touch. Putting together a gift basket is simple, just find a few simple items such socks, a hat, organic baby soap. And if you’re feeling generous you can throw in a homemade voucher for 1 or more night of babysitting duties.
The great thing about this gift is that you can pack in lots of smaller gifts which most people won’t bother buying. New mums will probably be given loads of baby clothes, but not enough socks or baby powder.
Eco-friendly diapers made into a diaper cake
Diaper cakes are a relatively new thing, but catching on. They look brilliant and if you have the time you can buy your own eco-friendly or even cloth diapers and make a cake.
Diapers are of course one of the biggest costs of a baby, both in financial and environmental terms, so if you do this right you can save mum a pretty penny and do your bit for nature too.
A personalized teddy
Most of the gifts above rely on being made in an environmentally conscious way to qualify as ‘green’. Ok, so a personalised teddy doesn’t necessarily fit these criteria, but something nicely personalized with the baby’s name or a heartfelt message is likely to be kept for many years to come, which arguably makes this the greenest gift of all, and certainly the most personal.
Shopping for eco-friendly gifts is a great way to buy your loved ones something a bit different, and with baby gifts especially this is often hard to do otherwise. These are just a few ideas to get you started, but if you get a little creative there are lots of fun eco-friendly ideas out there.
