Balanced Diet Foods for Men

Rarely is there a focus on balanced diet foods for men.  Usually women are the focus of all things diet.  We want to eat right, we want to lose weight or we want to improve our health with fruits and vegetables.

Men deserve some attention too.  For all the guys who want to take control of their health, weight and overall well being here are ten balanced diet foods to improve your quality of life.

Watermelon – is a mighty warrior in the fight against high blood pressure.  Men are more at risk for high blood pressure than women.  Watermelon is extremely high in potassium which combats high blood pressure and stroke. Oh yeah, watermelon is also refreshing and has a high water content.  So eat up!

Broccoli – falls into the cruciferous vegetable category.  It is a super food for everyone, but especially for men.  Reason being it helps reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.  Men over 35 years old are at a high risk for both diseases.

Tomatoes – are high in the antioxidant Lycopene.  This is good news for men because Lycopene aids in the prevention of prostate cancer.  Studies have shown that cooked tomatoes carry larger amounts of this important antioxidant, so don’t pass on the sauce guys.

Salmon – is considered one of the healthier fish.  It packs a double punch for men by fighting prostate cancer and heart disease.  How?  Those omega 3 fatty acids are at work again.  So broil it, grill it, sauté it or whatever you want to do with it.  Just eat up!

Brown Rice – is high in fiber and has ample amounts of B vitamins, magnesium, potassium and zinc.  Pay attention guys.  Rice is a whole grain and whole grains help support your energy and appetite control all day.

Water – does not contain nutrition, but it’s considered a nutrient because of the powerful effect it has on your body and its overall function.  Drink up guys, water is a crucial part of keeping your well oiled systems running properly.  By the way, did you know that most Americans are dehydrated well before they even realize it? Hhmm…

Pomegranate – Another great diet food for men is pomegranate.  Here’s the rundown of its many benefits for the male species; protects against prostate cancer, has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties and –get this gentlemen – the juice supposedly has the same effects as Viagra?

Bananas – are high in potassium and as mentioned above, potassium helps lower your blood pressure and lowers your risk of having a stroke.  They also regulate your nervous system and stimulate formation of red blood cells. Not to mention they’re delicious.  You can eat them on the go or slice them up to eat with your cereal.

Pumpkin Seeds – like fish, contain omega-3 fatty acids that may help promote prostate health. Pumpkin seeds also contain zinc, a mineral that is also associated with the prevention of prostate cancer.

Grapes – are another fruit with high water content.  What does that mean for men?  It means they help keep you hydrated, provide fiber and will keep you slim and trim.  So next time you feel like snacking, grab some grapes instead.
