Omega-3 fatty acids have long been endorsed in terms of heart health and in combating pain and inflammation. But latest studies suggested that omega-3 fatty acids may be the key to lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease and its related symptoms.
Researchers from the University of California, Davis has conducted a study, a medical research to evaluate the use of DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, in the slowing down of the Alzheimer’s disease. Many evidence so far as established the omega-3 fatty acids as a beneficial component in terms of slowing down of the said disease’s symptoms.
Other Related Studies
A recent study from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden led by Dr. Yvonne Freund-Levi, shows that Alzheimer’s disease can be potentially cured with the regular intake of omega-3. Even though it has posed several questions in the past, the study that has been published in the Journal of Internal Medicine can penetrate the blood barrier. This penetration of the blood barrier can allow the acids to reach the brain.
The study has established omega-3 in the field of Alzheimer’s study and for many this can be the real hope in the disabling condition of the said disease.
How to get the Needed Omega-3 for Alzheimer’s Prevention
Omega-3 can be taken from different sources. The most famous omega-3 source is fish. Most common fish which are consumed for omega-3 is salmon, sardines and tuna. Other marine life such as calamari and krill oil, though a bit overshadowed by fish oil, can even have higher omega-3 concentrate from the former.
Plant sources for omega-3 are also common. Flaxseed, walnuts and algae are three of the well-known ones. Other includes Chia seeds, soybean and sprouts. Natural sources can be possible but then most of the times they can’t yield the needed amount of omega-3 concentrate to fill in the gaps, especially if you aim to treat or help in disabling conditions of the body such as the Alzheimer’s.
Other ways to Prevent Alzheimer’s
Though omega-3 has been a new innovation and a promising one, you shouldn’t rely on it alone. Rather, have some more ways and live a couple of more healthy choices. Here are some tips for that:
- Eat natural produces such as fruits and vegetables.
- Have more berries in your diet.
- Have folic acid in your line of supplement
- Drink a glass of wine during your evening meal.
- Control your blood pressure. Check and be aware of it from time to time.
- Be with other people; keep your social relationship active.
- Exercise and move a lot.
- Avoid harmful things for the health such as smoking and alcohol.
There are still more studies that needs to be done. But with few more years, this can certainly shed light and be of help in the medical field. And finally, after few more years, there will be a cure for Alzheimer’s and those that suffer from it will finally find hope.
