amazing_stretchesEven the smallest of automobile accidents can contribute to excruciating pain and be a hindrance to your everyday activities. The most common injuries caused by a collision can include whiplash, back pain and neck discomfort. Less expensive alternatives to physical therapy include the following at home exercises and simple stretches.

Low Back Pain Relief

If you’ve been recently injured in a car accident, you may be experiencing discomfort in your lower region. Simple stretching exercises can strengthen this area and help you to get into your normal routine.

Lie on your back and gently draw your knees toward your chest. Wrap your arms around your knees and move from side to side. You should begin to feel the lower back muscles relax, and your pain begin to subside. Other exercises include side and back bending. Hold the stretches for ten to twenty seconds and repeat at least five times.

Whiplash is a painful condition that requires stretching and relaxation moves. Exercises to alleviate neck pain start by slowly lowering the head and trying to touch your chin to your chest. Hold for at least five to ten seconds and raise your head slowly back upward until your head is level.

Repeat the exercise at least five times or until you gain more flexibility without any soreness. Rotation exercises can also relieve neck tenderness. Start by slowly rotating your head toward the left side and try to look over the shoulder.

Hold for three seconds and move back to the starting position. Rotate your head toward the right side and do the same thing. Repeat at least five times until your neck begins to feel more flexible.

Herniated Disc

A herniated disc caused by a car accident can be excruciating and make it a chore to perform simple tasks such as sitting at your desk and walking around. One of the easiest ways to help relieve the pain is to strengthen the back by performing stretching exercises.

Leg raises are an easy way to ease a herniated disc. Begin by lying on the floor and gently lift one leg off the floor. Hold it up and count to ten and gradually release it down toward the ground. Switch legs and perform the same exercise on the other leg.

The back leg swing is another excellent exercise to aid the lower back. Stand behind a chair and raise one leg at a time while swinging it gently outward. Hold it straight and count to ten. Bring it right where you started and begin on the other leg. Complete a minimum of five repetitions of both exercises to retain strength and flexibility in your back.

When using these techniques remember, it is always important to consult a doctor but secondly, seek advice from a lawyer such as a Florida or Houston car accident attorney to be sure your rights and health are taken care of.

Some of the most painful injuries related to a car accident include whiplash, back injuries, herniated disc and arm or leg trauma. Treating the minor aches begin with the above simple stretching exercises and can help you retain strength and mobility in your everyday movements.

If you’ve been injured in a car accident, a professional personal injury attorney can assist you with your case and negotiate a fair and proper settlement on your behalf.
