RNStaying healthy in today’s world can be quite challenging. Fortunately, there are a number of things that can be done to make it easier. Below are four health tips that were given by Professional RNs:

Get Adequate Amounts Of Sleep

Sleep deprivation can have a negative impact on your immune system. This can put you at risk for developing a number of illnesses. That is why Rayma Halloran, who is a registered nurse at The Campus Health Center, recommends that people get adequate amounts of sleep. The average adult needs to get between seven and nine hours of sleep every night.

If you get into the habit of going to bed and getting up around the same time every day, then it will be much easier for you to sleep through the night. Even though it is tempting to stay up late and sleep in on the weekends, you should still maintain a regular sleep schedule. You should also limit caffeine and alcohol intake prior to going to bed.

Wash Your Hands Frequently

Rayma Halloran also recommends that people wash their hands frequently. She has stated that the hands are one of the germiest places on the body. People are constantly touching things with their hands and shaking other people’s hands. Viruses and bacteria can very easily spread through hand contact. You will need to wash your hands before you prepare food or eat. Your hands will need to be washed after you handle pets, use the restroom, cough or sneeze. Furthermore, you should consider coughing or sneezing into your sleeve or a tissue instead of your hand.

Engage In Regular Physical Activity

Heart disease is killing more people in America than any other health condition. In most cases, heart disease can be prevented by making a couple of lifestyle adjustments. Kristin McCormick, who is a registered nurse at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, recommends that people engage in regular physical activity to help reduce their risk of heart disease.

McCormick has stated that there are several things that people can do to get more exercise in their day. You do even have to step foot inside of a gym to get an adequate amount of physical activity. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator is one of the things you can do to squeeze more exercise into your day. She also encourages people to park further away from their destinations. McCormick is the mother of twin boys, and she encourages them to go outside and play as much as possible.

Do Not Smoke/Quit If You Are A Current Smoker

Smoking is another risk factor that puts a person at risk for developing heart disease. That is why McCormick urges people to avoid smoking. If you are a current smoker, then you should definitely consider getting help so that you can quit. Furthermore, it is important to note that inhaling secondhand smoke is just as bad as smoking a cigarette. For that reason, you will need to avoid exposing yourself to secondhand smoke.
