The Health Dangers of Drinking Beer

Drinking beer is a common pastime around the world, and in America, the beer culture is particularly strong.

People drink beer at lunch with friends, at dinners with coworkers, at barbeques and football games on the weekends and often at any other time of the day that suits them. Due to the fact that beer is so accepted in our society, it’s easy for people to forget how unhealthy it can be.

1. Body

Most of you have probably heard the term “beer gut,” a time or two before. Beer has a lot of calories and is known for producing weight gain, but it’s the unknown ingredients in certain beers that can produce the real health threat.

Alcoholic beverages such as beer are regulated by the Department of Treasury instead of the Food and Drug Administration, and therefore, the same strict labeling laws are not enforced.

This means that there may be unhealthy ingredients in your beer that are not included on the label, such as high-fructose corn syrup from genetically modified corn, MSG, petroleum food coloring, formaldehyde-containing calcium disodium EDTA, and propylene glycol, a chemical in anti-freeze.

The long-term health effects of these chemicals are still unknown, but studies are showing that foods containing genetically modified ingredients or organisms (GMO’s) can have a negative impact on animal health and the environment.

2. Life

People often discuss how drinking can affect physical health but forget to mention what a damaging impact getting drunk can have on your social life. Drinking lowers inhibitions, which means that after a few beers, you could end up doing something you might regret the next day.

You may have heard the phrase “beer goggles,” a term which represents this effect. When you’re wearing your “beer goggles,” you might find someone attractive that you would normally be repulsed by. This shift in perspective has led many people to go to bed with someone they don’t truly like, leading to terrible regret, embarrassment and awkwardness the following morning.

Aside from the possibility that you make a sexual mistake while drinking, beer can also simply lead you to put your foot in your mouth. If you’re holding an important secret about a close friend, be careful about yapping to others while under the influence of alcohol. Beer has been the cause of ruin in many friendships over the centuries.

3. Future

Perhaps the worst consequence of drinking beer is the possibility that you could get in a car and drive while under the influence. You may not think this is something you would ever do, but because of how greatly beer can lower your inhibitions, it’s difficult to know for sure. The only way to protect against drinking and driving is to have a sober friend or a cab take you to and from your party location.

If you do make the mistake of drinking and driving and get a DUI as a result, it’s important to contact an experienced DUI attorney. According to Katz & Phillips, P.A., an Orange County Florida DUI lawyers firm, “Whether you are dealing with a felony DUI, underage DUI, multiple DUI offenses, or even just a first-time charge, enlisting the help of a conscientious litigator should be a priority.”

Whether this is your first DUI or you’ve had multiple arrests, an experienced attorney will figure out how to help with your situation. The punishment for a DUI varies by state, but it often involves losing your license, paying a number of fines and even facing jail time.

Overall, beer has a definite negative effect and influence to a person’s health and well-being. If a person chooses to have a drink, it might be recommended to have a glass of wine, which has some positive health benefits, instead. When one has had too much to drink, it is always best to have a sober and designated friend to watch out for their well-being.

It would even be wise to consider taking a taxi as an alternate solution. When an unwise choice is made, and you are faced with a DUI, considerations should be made to retain an attorney immediately. This isn’t something you want to go through on your own.

Health enthusiast Lisa Coleman shares the negative effects that beer can have on an individual’s health and overall well-being, including the possibilities that can occur legally when a wrong decision is made to drive under the influence. Retaining an experienced attorney, such as Katz & Phillips, P.A., an Orange County Florida DUI lawyers group, is imperative when faced with DUI charges due to an unwise choice of drinking and driving.
