Women In GymMany people have opinions on what is the best way to go about losing that extra weight that you have picked up over the years but you need to be very careful about who you listen to when it comes to weight loss tips because bad advice can ruin your chances before you even start.  There are several weight loss lies that will derail you you if you let them, although lies may be too harsh of a word because people who spread them usually do not know that they are not true.

At the top of the list when it comes to big weight loss lies is the one that says there is nothing you can do about the weight gain in the first place, or the weight loss now, because it is all hereditary.  All of those pounds that you added around your waist had nothing to do with your genes and everything to do with all of the bad habits that you have picked up over the years.

While you may have picked up many of these bad habits watching your parents at the dinner table, they did not pass them on to you, it was your choice to copy them.  The good news is that you can change your habits again and replace the bad ones with good habits.

There is no such thing as quick weight loss and anyone that tells you otherwise is incorrect.  If you want to lose just one of those extra pounds then you must create a deficit of 3550 calories either through exercise or eating less.  When you go on a diet, especially one of the new fad diets, that big loss that you experience in the beginning is almost entirely made up of water.

If you are not consuming enough water to keep yourself properly hydrated at all times while you are dieting then you can run into some serious health problems.  Two pounds per week is the recommended weight loss which equates to a 1000 calorie per day deficit.

Finally, avoid any advice that tells you that you can lose weight without exercise.  If you want to lose any significant amount of weight you are going to have to put time into an exercise plan.

This doesn’t mean that you have to spend hours at the gym or a lot of money on home exercise equipment.  Your exercise program can be as simple as a 30 minute walk each day.  It doesn’t have to be strenuous, but you must exercise to lose weight.
