4 Smart Lifestyle Habits For Getting More Accomplished

man-balancingWe all know that healthy lifestyle habits are important, but what we might not realize enough is how important these habits can be for our productivity levels at work. We have all heard how being healthier can improve our overall awareness and drive to get things done, but it seems like we very seldom equate this to something as simple as getting more accomplished at our job.

If you work from home like I do, then you no doubt realize that more accomplished generally means more time away from the desk doing things that you enjoy. There is nothing more satisfying than getting done with work an hour early so that I can spend the afternoon with my family! But as much as I enjoy this (when it happens), I used to get so frustrated that I could not make it happen on a more regular basis.

But I was also making choices that were not very contributive to increasing productivity when it came to my health and lifestyle! Among other things, I was…

  • Eating a lot of junk food
  • Not getting enough exercise
  • Waking up and starting work sore and stiff
  • Suffering from a lot of neck tension and frequent headaches

If you find yourself facing similar hardships, then I would encourage you to make a choice to start changing your habits today! These four tips really helped me to turn my overall health and fitness around as it pertained to working from home, and I believe that they can do the same for you!

Tip #1… Go For A Walk Every Day

This can be before or after your work day. It could even be during lunch! I personally enjoy taking a twenty minute walk before I start work. I walk, I jump in the shower, and then I hit the office feeling refreshed and revitalized! This much-needed exercise will actually give you more energy, and will help you to stay more focused as you get things done.

Tip #2… Stretch Before You Sit Down

Make it a point to stretch before you sit down to begin work, and also at various other times throughout the day. I actually stand up at least once an hour and do a five-minute stretching routine. Yes, this takes a little bit of time away from my work, but I get a lot more accomplished as a result. It will also help you to clear your mind and think about what you are going to do next. Plus, a small break every hour never hurts, right?

Tip #3… Eat Nutritious Foods

Stop eating candy and try a granola bar! Healthy food is good for you (we all know that, right?), which means that it will fuel your body to produce better results than junk food will.

Donuts and soda might taste good in the morning, but you will pay for it later on… both by gaining weight, and also by suffering from an overall lack of energy.

Tip #4… Get More ‘Ergonomically Friendly’

A friend of mine who was recently in an auto accident told me that his chiropractor had given him some great tips for getting more accomplished at home ( my friend was a blogger, so he spent a LOT of time at his computer). Following these tips not only increased my productivity, but also helped me to be more comfortable! I stopped suffering from frequent headaches, and I no longer get neck tension like I used to!

First of all, make sure that your desk and computer monitor are the right height. Also, try to buy a mouse pad that has a wrist support (if you do not already have one). A very comfortable chair is also important.

Try to get an office chair that is both supportive and that suits your work style. Getting out and exercising a few times per week also helps. I even lost some weight in the process!

Following these tips might be difficult in the beginning, especially if you are used to doing things a certain way. But getting rid of bad habits and adopting new ones is NEVER something that you are going to regret. In fact, you will be amazed at how much more time you will have to do the things that you enjoy! It will totally surprise you to see just how efficient you can become when you adopt something as simple as a healthier lifestyle.
