Has your busy schedule gotten the best of you? So many of us rush around with endless To-Do lists, hoping that someday the craziness will end and we will have a little time to ourselves. Often stress gets in the way of enjoying the things we do each day. The truth is that, most of the time, you have to create your own happiness and stress-relieving techniques if you want to enjoy your life and be less stressed. If you are looking for some ways to relax, here are a few tips that might help.

Physical Exercise: Go For a Walk or Stretch

As simple as it may seem, sometimes all you need to loosen up that stress is to get outside and go for a walk. Physical exercise has always been known to release tension in the body and help one feel better and more rejuvenated. Go for a walk around the block, or even better, escape into nature for a while, if you have that option. Walking in nature helps you forget the world for a while.

In addition to walking, perhaps try a few simple stretching exercises to loosen up that tension. Many of us carry incredible amounts of stress in our muscles, particularly our necks and backs. This can cause problems if we do not take the time to stretch them out and really release that tension. Stretching also provides a great opportunity for some life reflection and thinking time.

Reflect and Meditate

Find a quiet room or area (again, nature is great!) where you can spend a little time with yourself. Take this time to reflect on your life and day. Make sure you are comfortable and simply think about your life, the good things in it, and what you can do to stay relaxed throughout the day. Also practice meditation, where you focus on simply breathing and clearing your mind of stresses and worries. This helps you to empty your mind, rather than keep all your worries cooped up inside.

Aromatherapy Massage Oils

A fantastic way to relax is to use aromatherapy massage oils. When you get a massage with these, or even simply rub them on yourself, you feel the tension leave your muscles due to the natural relaxation properties they possess. These oils help release negative emotions you may be holding onto and can send messages to your brain to take a break. Using these oils is a smart move, as they are completely natural. They have great physical and emotional benefits and help you get “back on track” with less stress, as your mind is more open, calm, and focused.

Massage your scalp

A simple technique for stress reduction and relaxation is to massage your scalp. Doing this in the shower will increase its effectiveness, as you can let the hot water relax those muscles tightened up in your head. Massage your scalp in a circular motion and breathe deeply to really unwind those muscles and relax.

Tennis Ball Massage

Speaking of massages, loosening your muscles through an at-home tennis ball massage can help you relax quite a bit as well. All you need are two tennis balls and a floor! Just lie on your back with a tennis ball on each side of your spine. Roll up and down on the balls. Using this technique will help release tension you unknowingly keep in your back. While doing this, as with many other relaxation techniques, simply empty your mind and focus on releasing that tension and stress. The great thing about this tennis ball massage is that you can basically do it anywhere and it’s inexpensive!
