Many homes and businesses will suffer from some of a pest infestation at some time or another, and these can cause turmoil within any household.

There are many different reasons why you may suffer from an outbreak of pests and if the truth be told it’s never nice to be on the receiving end. With that being said, this post will introduce you to some very crazy, and often worrying, facts about pests that you probably never knew.

Facts about Pests

  • Cockroaches will carry well over 30 different types of bacteria, many of which can be extremely hazardous to the health. In fact, in addition to bacteria, cockroaches carry numerous parasitic worms, which have been known to set off asthma attacks in unsuspecting victims.

  • There are many people in this world who suffer from a crippling fear of spiders and they will not be happy to hear that there are well in excess of 30,000 different species of spiders. Nearly 30 of these species have caused death in humans over the years, which makes the fact that there are so many spiders in the world very worrying. Another spider fact that you probably never knew is that in some species the males will pluck cobwebs in much the same way as a guitar in order to attract females.

  • Forget about all the various dangerous species of insects you have ever heard of, as the common housefly happens to be one of the most dangerous in the world. In fact, the housefly actually carries and transmits far more diseases than any other animal on this planet. Probably even more disgusting is that the housefly only has the ability to ingest liquids, which means they will often regurgitate meals in order to turn them into liquids before consuming them again.

  • Mice are seen as common household pests and their habits are just as disgusting as the housefly. Over a period of 6 months, a nest of mice has the ability to produce nearly 20,000 droppings, as well as producing well over 2,000 offspring in the same amount of time. So left to their own devices a potential infestation of mice will typically only ever get worse.

  • As soon as the only Queen ant within a colony dies, so will every other ant in that colony, simply because no new workers (who typically help to feed the other ants) will be born. This is basically why it is best to turn to the professional services of a pest control company to deal with an ant infestation, as they have some very specific chemicals, which will eventually make their way to the Queen ant. You probably were also not aware that ants don’t sleep.

  • Bed bugs will usually be hidden away during the day, most commonly in cracks and crevices around the home. They will then come out at night in search of blood to feed off, and unfortunately this will usually be a sleeping human who will generally not have a clue that they have become the main course at mealtime for bed bugs.
