Don’t be afraid to entertain. It may seem like a daunting experience with so much to organise but with a few tips, you can enjoy the party planning as much as the party! Allow yourself plenty of time and your party will be an unqualified success.

Make a List

Lists are invaluable to keep completely organised. It is essential to have a guest list, a shopping list and a ‘to do’ list. Make a list of all emails or phone call to be made.

Guests

Mix up your guest list; invite some new friends and some old friends. Blend together an assortment of job disciplines and generations. A broad range of invitees will encourage mingling and keep guests stimulated. To encourage socialisation, put out less chairs than there are guests.

Invitations

Send out the invitations early or if your party will be held during the holiday season, send out a date claimer.

Choose A Venue

If your home is too small or not suitable, choose another venue, but take into account whether transport or parking is easily available at this venue. Also, find out what time you will have to vacate the premises by and if it is subject to noise level council regulations. Check out what rules are in place for after party cleaning.

What About A Theme

Themes usually get everyone involved and can spark your guests’ enthusiasm. Dress ups from certain eras are always fun, such as the roaring 40s, the hippie era or disco divas. You could keep it simple, by having a colour theme such as black and white. Guests will be asked to come in black or white attire only and you can plan your decorations accordingly.

Catering

Organise catering early. Catering companies have a large selection of finger food to choose from and can also organise wait staff.

Talk to Everyone

It is so easy to get carried away with making sure everything is going to plan, that you can easily forget to enjoy your own party! Do not disappear into the kitchen; take time to speak to everyone, if only for a few minutes.

Music

Background music can create a talking point and liven up the atmosphere. It will also block out any dead spots during the event. Be prepared in case guests would like to dance. Make sure you have a good supply of dance music on hand.

Protect Your Treasures

If you are hosting the party at home, be sure to put away any beloved items that may be subject to accidental breakage. You are having a party in your home and on occasion, unforseen things can happen.

Give Yourself Plenty of Time

You should start planning months before the event. Don’t be afraid to enlist the help of close friends, otherwise the situation could turn stressful very quickly. The services of an event planning company could be engaged to ensure the smooth running of your party plans. They will work closely with you to make sure all plans are on schedule for the success of your party.

Parties need not always be lavish affairs. Keep the decorations simple, so as not to appear too garish; serve only one impressive dish and keep the rest of the catering to appetising morsels that everyone would enjoy. The best tip of all: enjoy yourself!
