As Americans, we all pride ourselves in honoring and respecting the men and women of our armed forces. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who does not know a member of the military. When our loved ones are deployed, we want to do whatever we can to provide constant reminders that we miss and love them. One way to do that is by sending care packages, little pieces of home to keep them going. There are so many things you can include in a care package including homemade baked goods and challenge coins. Creating the perfect care package for your loved one is a great way to show your love and appreciation.

A Taste of Home

One of the most common things that military men and women request from home is a food item they really enjoy. This could be anything from a favorite candy bar to a homemade baked item they love. One way that you can send them a taste of home without it getting ruined while being shipped is to utilize sturdy containers. For example, if you would like to send some fresh-baked cookies in your care package, put them in an empty (and cleaned) Pringles container so that they do not get crushed en route to your loved one.

Provide an Escape

Even though your loved one is abroad, sometimes they need a little something to help them escape their reality. Accomplishing this will depend greatly on what your friend or family member enjoys. If they are a music lover, why not send them an iPod preloaded with their favorite artists and songs. If they are more the literary type, send them a few paperback books (they are lighter) either their favorites or new ones written by authors they enjoy.

Encouraging Reminder

When your friend or family member is deployed, they will be experiencing things that you could not even imagine. Sometimes, they can lose sight of just what it is they are fighting for, causing depression and anxiety. Sending a few happy reminders of what it is they are doing will help to boost their morale and spirits and remind them of how proud you are of their sacrifice. To do this, send challenge coins with their branch’s crest or perhaps a photo that will remind them what it is they are defending.

A care package to a service member is so much more than gifts; it is a reminder, an acknowledgement, and a thank you that will not only bring your loved one joy, but you as well.
