how to build a mobile app

It seems that no matter where you look, there are mobile applications that are aiming to make our lives easier.

Whether they keep our schedules for us, keep us updated with friends, tell us what’s happening around us, or more, there is always “an app for that”. So what if you have an idea for a mobile application that you’d like to create?

Well, follow the steps listed in this infographic and you perhaps could be on your ways to enjoying the mobile application boom.

Before you begin, you need to plan for three of the most basic elements of any app.

First, do you have an idea that people desire adding to their mobile phone? Or do you have a business that would benefit from having its own mobile application? Everyone thinks they have a great idea. But do you have an idea that is great in more minds than just your own? Having an app that people want and need will help when it comes to marketing and selling it to people.

Second, do you know how to program or design elements of the application? If you do not know how to do computer programing or designing, you may need to outsource this out.

You will need to do the due diligence to interview possible candidates and check all of their resources and past work references. You can ask potential workers for a portfolio of work, to see if their past work will align to make them a suitable candidate for developing your mobile application.

And lastly, what is your budget for this application? If you have development or design knowledge, you can decrease your budget by quite a bit. But if you have to pay for these to be done, you will need to factor this in. Also, you will have to prepare to spend about half of your budget on marketing.

Once you’ve answered all these questions and feel comfortable moving forward with your application idea, here’s how do you do it.

Step 1: Define your idea

Define what you want your app to do and who your target users will be. If your making an app for your business, decide how it could benefit your company. And, decide if you want the app to be free or have a cost to download.

Step 2: Hire a Professional Developer & Designer

If you do not have the development or design knowledge mentioned above, you will need to hire a capable company to handle all of this for you.

Step 3: Choose a Platform and Register with Them

All of the major operating systems (Apple, Android, Windows and Blackberry) each have their own app market place. Do your research to find information that will be necessary when launching your application. This will also allow you to find information on whether or not your application, or something like it, is already on the market.

Step 4: Plan and Design your App

Once you have assured that your app is as original as you hoped, begin to think about how the app will work and how the user interface will work with each step. Try and make it fun and friendly for the user, keeping them entertained and attentive when using it. Also, having some sort of social media integration will help spread the word, which means more downloads!

Step 5: Download the API for your Platform and Get Building

Each mobile platform has its own language called application programming interface (API). Take time building your app and familiarizing yourself with the API. This will help you greatly with the finished product.

Step 6: Test, Test, Test. And Test Some More!

Once you think your done, test your application thoroughly to assure that it is crisp and clean. Give it to your trusted friends to see what they think and how it runs for them.
Once your application is ready….

Step 7: Submit

Upload your app to the necessary platform. Depending on which platform you decided to go with, it may take a few days to get approved. During this time, hype the application up. Get on social media or try and get reviews done for your app. As the word starts to spread, more people will begin looking for it and downloading it.

Step 8: Promote and Sell

Once your app is available, don’t forget about it. You will need to work hard at promoting it and selling it. Tell everyone you know about it, consider asking your friends to download it but don’t get spammy, release information on your social media accounts such as Twitter about it. Usually the more you promote the better it will do.
