The Popularity Of SXSW And TED Shows

SXSW 2013 has come and gone, bringing with it a whirlwind of interest in the latest technology and ideas that transform our personal lives and the way we conduct business. Our relationship with tech has never been more complicated.

Businesses succeed and fail based on their ability to leverage the latest tech to streamline their operations. Whether it’s Google Glasses, a new social network, or project planning software, business leaders are looking for the next big thing.

Affordability of Technology

The popularity of TED talks also speaks to this new mentality of all tech, all the time.  That’s because competition has never been fiercer. Anyone can start a business right now thanks to the relative affordability of technology and access to a high-speed broadband connection.

That means business owners must use every possible advantage at their disposal to cut down costs and the time it takes to perform crucial daily functions.

That’s why employers are always looking out for new iterations of project planning software or other applications that place an emphasis on organization.

A big subject at SXSW this year, as well as in technology and business journalism in general, was the use of data. Everyone is obsessed with harnessing as much data as possible to come up with innovative solutions.

But data comes in two forms: the first is the customer data that everyone is really interested in. How can we target more appropriate audiences to make sales? Is it worth it to put more money in this advertising strategy?

Internal Data

But the second type of data is the less interesting, but perhaps more important kind. That’s internal data like scheduling, budgets, cost controls, company objectives, resource management, and more.

Having a reliable and efficient way to track all of these things is essential for a business’ survival. The old ways of having one employee to keep track of each of these metrics just won’t cut it anymore. That’s where new organization applications come in.

The more business owners can rely on software to accurately track data, the more they can bring costs down overall through the elimination of redundant jobs and costly errors. It also can’t be overstated how saving time through efficient record keeping can save money.

While SXSW gets attention because of all the awesome events and parties that are thrown, there is a practical reason why so many follow what happens there every year. Business owners are looking for the latest developments that will help them run their organizations more efficiently.
